Berggren named guest speaker for Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

LINCOLN, Neb. (July 23, 2008) -- Dick Berggren, Executive Editor of Speedway Illustrated will be the guest speaker at the 2008 Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The Ceremony will be held on Friday, October 3, at the Lincoln Firefighters Reception Hall at 241 Victory Lane in Lincoln, NE.

Berggren graduated with a bachelor's degree from Southern Connecticut State University in 1965 and earned his doctorate in psychology from Tufts University in 1970. He was a psychology professor at Emmanuel College in Boston for nine years.

Berggren began his media career writing for local newspapers and starting working at Stock Car Racing magazine while teaching at Emmanuel College along with racing on the weekends. He later became the magazine's editor and worked at Stock Car Racing magazine for 22 years He left that position in 1999 to start Speedway Illustrated and remains it's executive editor. The National Motorsport Press Association named Berggren the 1999 Writer of the Year.

Dr. Berggren was inducted in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2002 and is scheduled to be inducted in the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame in 2008. Berggren received the 2007 Bobby Isaac Memorial Award for his outstanding contributions to short track racing.

The 2008 Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame inductees will include Joe Fahnstock, Lincoln; Terry Fritsch, Omaha; Bob Nickolite, Lincoln; Joe Orth, Lincoln; John Wilkinson, Lincoln; Charlie Williams, Lincoln and Bill Wrich, Kennard.

Tickets for the Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony are $18 in advance or you may purchase a table for 10 people for $180. Tickets will be available at the door for $20. Included in the price of a ticket is a tour of the Museum of American Speed following the Induction Ceremony.

The purpose of the Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame is to perpetuate the memory of these individuals who have brought lasting fame to the state of Nebraska through their efforts in auto racing.

Nominees to the Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame must have been a resident of the state for at least two years and must be retired for at least four years from the discipline they are being honored for. Active participants in the sport will be considered if they are at least 55 years of age and have been with the sport for at least 30 years.

All candidates must have made positive contributions to the sport of auto racing on a local and regional level and go on to some national prominence.

The Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame is located inside the Museum of American Speed at 340 Victory Lane on the Speedway Motors complex in Lincoln, Neb.

The Museum of American Speed hours: May through September, two-hour guided tours begin at 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. October through April, two-hour guided tours begin at 2 p.m. every Friday. Admission is $10 to tour the museum.

The 20th Annual Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held at the Lincoln Firefighter’s Reception Hall located at 241 Victory Lane in Lincoln, Neb., on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017. Tickets are SOLD OUT. There are NO TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR!! Doors open at 5 p.m. with the ceremony beginning at 6:30.
